AI, 5G, and IoT top the list of the most important technologies for 2021
The most important technologies in 2021 will be AI, 5G, and IoT, according to a newly released global survey of CIOs and CTOs by the technical professional organization IEEE. More specifically, nearly one-third (32%) of respondents cited AI and machine learning, followed by 5G (20%), and IoT (14%). Manufacturing (19%), healthcare (18%), financial services (15%), and education (13%) are the industries that most believe will be impacted by technology in 2021, according to CIOs and CTOS surveyed. It's no surprise that COVID-19 has upended organizations, observed Carmen Fontana, an IEEE member and cloud and emerging technology lead at Centric Consulting. SEE: CompTIA's 10 trends for 2021.

AI, 5G, and IoT will be the most important tech of 2021, IT leaders say
With more organizations and professionals relying on remote working technologies, there has been an increase in cybercrime during the global pandemic. Understandably, CIOs and CTOs have concerns when it comes to cybersecurity, their two biggest challenges being workers using their own devices at work (37%) and securing the Internet of Things (35%). However, just 34% of respondents said they were capable of tracking and managing between 26-50% of the connected devices used in their organizations, and just 20% said they could do this for 51-75% of IoT devices. Elsewhere in the survey, CIOs and CTOs provided a glimpse into their biggest priorities since the outbreak of coronavirus at the start of 2020. It found that IT leaders are quickly adopting cloud computing (55%), 5G (52%), as well as AI and machine learning (51%) in response to the pandemic.

When It Comes To Artificial Intelligence, Throw Away That Tired Old Tech Rulebook
If you're in a relatively technologically advanced organization, you already understand how new technologies demand --or facilitate -- new approaches to problems and opportunities. But when it comes to artificial intelligence, you ain't seen nothing yet. AI opens up issues -- such as risk and explainability -- that most business and technology leaders have just begun to grasp. In addition, AI will be the determining factor in shaping the winners and losers in the market ahead. Many of these points were brought out in an in-depth study of 30 companies leading the way with AI, published by KPMG.

May 7, 2018 Written by: David H. Deans Early adopters are taking a strategic approach to enabling their enterprise with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. They're solving complex problems, infusing intelligent system capabilities into business processes and investing to create a new AI-enhanced future. However, many other leaders seek a way to prioritize their initial investments as cognitive computing presents virtually endless possibilities across business processes and functions. For those who are just getting started, here are six key issues for your consideration. If you have limited or no experience with these technologies, then you'll need guidance – useful information about lessons learned and best practices from the pioneers.
